Irish entry in the 2008 Volvo Ocean Race?

Volvo Sailing 1

Rumours abond that Ireland may have it's first Irish enrty in 20 years.

Limerick sailor Ger O'Rourke last month broke news of his bid to enter this years race but soon the venture was on the rocks due to a lack of sponsorship.

O'Rourke's bid may now be back on as it appears that last minute sponsorship has been secured. It is believed that Ducth firm Delta Lloyd may be involved in the deal on condition that 2 Dutch sailors are included in the final 11 who will participate in the Round the World Yacht Race.

O'Rourke has created a low cost plan and is hoping for success with a budget of just €4 million in comparision to the €40 million which will be spent by other competitors.

Whatever happens we all wish Ger and his crew every success in their forth-coming venture!
