Review: The Crossing

The Crossing

The Crossing is a book which chronicles the amazing Journey of Ben Fogle and James Cracknell as they rowed their way 3,000 NM across the Atlantic Ocean.

The book begins with some background on Ben Fogle (the TV presenter) and James Cracknell (British Olympic Rower). Both men met for the first time at an awards ceremony. It was here (after talking for about half a minute) that Ben Fogle made the suggestion to James that they take part in the competition, to Row across the Atlantic. The book goes on to detail the preparations which both men had to undertake and the personal decisions and risks they both took.

Their journey across the Atlantic took 49 days of non stop rowing, during which time they were both push to their physical and emotional limits. Rowing across the Atlantic is a massive undertaking and involves a huge degree of risk - as frighteningly shown by the capsizing of their rowing boat in stormy weather.

Overall this is a brutally honest book which includes frank accounts of the friction between both men at sea, their incredible adventure and ultimately the forging of a friendship.

This book is an excellent read, which we would highly recommend.

Rating: 9/10 Excellent
