Initial Review:
As I'm currently training for my 4th Marathon, I would consider myself to be a moderately experienced runner. Up until now I have only ever relied on websites like mapmyrun.com and some simple mathematics to calculate my pace! As such I have been on the lookout for some more sophisticated equipment and was delighted to sample the Polar RS300X.
First impressions:
The watch was comfortable to wear, the buttons are self explantory and the multiple display was very well put together. The watch comes complete with a heart rate monitor and a GPS tracking device. My initial fears of a complicated setup were allayed as I found this to be throughly explained in the instructions and I had no problem configuring the watch with the other devices.
Heart rate was not something that I would ever have monitored before but I found this to be an extremely useful tool that allowed me to maintain a steady pace. The GPS works fine while running although it did take my a while to get used to having such a large object strapped to be arm and it felt slightly clunky to start. On the other hand the unit is lightweight and eventually it's easy to forget that you are wearing it at all. My only issue with the G1 GPS unit was when running in wooded areas it did seem to have some difficulty staying in close contact and this ultimately effected the calculation of the overall distance covered.
So far, I am very happy with the watch, heart rate monitor and G1 GPS . I would buy this product again and I would recommend it to a friend.
